Hyoscine / Scopolamine (levo-duboisine / burundangais) a natural anti-muscarinic cholinergic antagonist, used for prevention of motion sickness, postoperative nausea & vomiting and treating certain types of muscle problems (eg, some Parkinson-like conditions, certain muscle spasm problems) & certain stomach or intestinal problems (eg, irritable colon syndrome).

Therapeutic uses : Scopolamine is Used for prevention of motion sickness and postoperative nausea and Vomiting.
Points of interest :
- Scopolamine has greater action on the CNS (unlike atropine, CNS effects are observed at therapeutic doses).
- Scopolamine has a Faster onset of action than atropine.
- Scopolamine has a longer duration of action as compared to atropine.
- For motion sickness, it is available as a topical patch that provides effects for up to 3 days.
- As with all drugs used for motion sickness, it is much more effective prophylactically than for treating motion sickness once it occurs.
Side effects : Commonly observed side effects are as follows :
- Dry mouth, blurred vision, xerostomia,tachycardia, hot & flushed skin, urinary retention, and constipation.
- Effects on the CNS include restlessness, confusion, agitation, hallucinations, and delirium, which may progress to depression, collapse of the circulatory and respiratory systems, and death.
- Body temperature is elevated.
