Cyclopentolate is a synthetic anti-muscarinic cholinergic antagonist, used for mydriasis (for dilating the eye before an exam or surgery and preventing the eye from focusing) and cycloplegia in eyes.
Dose : 0.5-1 % opthalmic solution

Therapeutic uses : Cyclopenolate has following usage:

  • Used for mydriasis and cycloplegia in eyes.
  • Used in iritis and uveitis.

Points of interest : It’s duration of action is shorter than that of atropine.
Side effects : Commonly observed side effects are as follows :

  • Clumsiness or unsteadiness, drowsiness,
  • Confusion,
  • Weakness & tiredness,
  • Constipation, full feeling, passing gas, or stomach cramps or pain,
  • Convulsions (seizures),
  • Flushing or redness of face,
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there),
  • Skin rash,
  • Slurred speech,
  • Dryness of mouth.

Contraindications :

  • Should not be used when untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, or untreated anatomically narrow angles are present, or if the patient is hypersensitive to any component of this preparation.
