Cetirizine (Metabolite of hydroxyzine) is a second generation H1- receptor blocker (Anti-histamine), useful in treating the allergic reactions like-Hey fever, eczema etc.

Therapeutic uses : Cetirizine has following usage :
- Useful in treating & preventing the allergic reactions like-Hey fever (allergic rhinitis / coryza), pallinosis, hives (urticaria/ atopic dermatitis), dermographism, eczema, sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, & skin rash and common cold.
- May be used adjuvant in seasonal asthma.
- It have mild sedation because of negligible penetration into the brain but is associated with a somewhat higher incidence of drowsiness than the other second-generation H1 antagonists..
Side effects : Second-generation H1-antagonists show very few side effects in converse to First generation. Following side effects may be provoked:
- Drowsiness, dizziness,
- Tiredness,
- Dry mouth,
- Weakness,
- Constipation
- Stomach pain etc.
