Alfuzosin is a adrenergic antagonist (α1-selective blocker), useful in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Therapeutic uses :
Alfuzosin is used extensively in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Note:- It is not approved for treatment of hypertension.
Side effects : Adverse effects of Alfuzosin are as follows:

  • Dizziness,
  • A lack of energy,
  • Nasal congestion,
  • Headache,
  • Drowsiness,
  • Orthostatic hypotension,
  • Tachycardia,
  • Sexual dysfunction,
  • Floppy iris syndrome.

Contraindications :

  • Alfuzosin should be avoided in patients at risk for prolonged QT syndrome.
  • AlfuzosinHCl is not indicated for use in the pediatric population.
  • Containdicated in patients with moderate or severe hepatic impairment (Childs-Pugh categories B and C).
